• Durham College opened in 1967 and started quite modestly: just 16 temporary classrooms, 14 staff members, and 205 students. But the college grew quickly and within 10 years had increased its student enrollment by more than 6 times.
• The Whitby campus was originally located in the building of the former Cadbury chocolate factory. Over time, this space transformed into a modern campus with vocational training centers and high-tech laboratories.
• In 2022, the college acquired the naming rights to a public transit station — Durham College Oshawa GO Station. This is quite a rare occurrence for educational institutions.

The university guarantees accommodation in residences on campus for students who submit documents on time. The university has 4 dormitories on its territory:

• South Village residence - the residence includes a cafeteria, study and recreation areas, rooms for 2 people. Each room has cable TV, kitchen area with refrigerator and microwave, internet access, telephone and private bathroom.
• Simcoe Village residence - offers rooms for 1 and 2 people.
• West Village residence - apartment-type rooms with an increased level of comfort.
• Whitby campus residence - rooms for 1-2 people, internet access, laundry, two common kitchen areas.

Admission to Durham College begins with an online application. Students upload documents: a certificate or diploma, transcripts, proof of English proficiency, a passport, and other required files. Everything is submitted through the system in PDF or JPEG format, and a registration fee is paid.

After submitting the application, access to a personal account is granted: there you can track the status of your application, add documents, and receive notifications. Access usually comes within approximately 14 business days, and review takes about 2–4 weeks.

If everything is in order, the college sends a Letter of Acceptance. After that, you need to confirm your spot through the portal and pay for tuition or the first semester — only then is the place secured for the student.

Next, a study permit is arranged — a permit to study in Canada. Sometimes a Provincial Attestation Letter is also required — the college helps obtain it after payment.

The final stage is preparing for the move. After receiving the visa, students receive instructions on how to move in, register for classes, arrange insurance, and complete an orientation program.

Durham College actively collaborates with universities, giving students the opportunity to continue their education after graduation. For example, the partnership with Ontario Tech University allows students to study on the same campus and, if desired, transfer from college courses to university ones.

College education is as practice-oriented as possible, so graduates leave with applied skills that are in demand among employers, and they can build careers both in Canada and beyond.

A special role is played by Career Development — the department that helps future professionals find jobs and internships: it handles temporary and permanent vacancies as well as recruitment events. International students can participate in the IWorks program and other formats, gaining paid work experience within the college.

There are also dedicated programs for career development, such as Career Launch: students and graduates attend workshops, career meetings, and employer events where they learn communication, networking, and self-presentation skills. This helps make the transition from study to work easier.

After completing their studies, international students can apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit — a permit to work in Canada: it provides the opportunity to gain Canadian work experience and subsequently use it for career advancement or immigration.
