Johns Hopkins University is one of the leading universities in the United States, internationally known for its research discoveries and active work in solving problems of the global community. The official opening took place in 1876 in conjunction with the inauguration of the first president Daniel Coit Gilman: he oversaw the opening of Johns Hopkins University and other institutions, including the university printing house, hospital, schools of nursing and medicine. The university was named in honor of philanthropist Johns Hopkins, known for his multimillion-dollar contribution to the development of education.

What factors are considered when evaluating U.S. universities, and how reliable are current rankings?

That's an interesting topic. The criteria used to evaluate universities vary by ranking. For nationwide rankings, factors like class size, teacher salaries, and the number of faculty members with advanced degrees in their field are common considerations. If a ranking focuses on student satisfaction, the criteria will differ. However, rankings don't always align with individual student needs and should be considered alongside other factors.

There are several training options available here:

• Full-time — with daily attendance of classes,
• Evening (part-time) – periodic attendance of classes, use of tools for self-study,
• Distance (online) is an opportunity to get a qualification from anywhere in the world using online resources.

Not all programs are available in online and evening formats, however, academic staff are ready to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student, if possible.

Almost all students at Homewood's main campus live in residences during their first two years of study. First-year students can choose one of two housing options:

• Traditional residential buildings with mostly double rooms and shared bathrooms,
• Suite-style apartments with single, double and triple rooms, private bathrooms. Some living areas have built-in kitchens, all are equipped with central heating and air conditioning.

Students of other campuses are offered many apartments and houses for rent, located within walking distance from academic buildings.

John Hopkins University is the owner of one of the best nutrition programs in the country, ranks sixth in the list of "Best colleges in the field of nutrition" according to the Daily Meal. The nutrition program involves gluten-free, nut-free, trans-fat-free, vegan and vegetarian recipes. On the menu you can find homemade smoked beef brisket, hand-made sushi, fresh salads and much more. The team of chefs takes responsibility to the community and the world seriously, so they use eggs from caged chickens, hormone-free milk, local products, and biodegradable paper products.

Artificial lighting is practically not used in the halls, as the building is designed in such a way that natural light enters it from all sides. Since the library is open around the clock, at night, students are illuminated by special lamps that correspond to daylight.

The neighboring and more traditional Milton S. Eisenhower Library is considered the university's main research library. The building houses book depositories, an impressive collection of historical books and manuscripts. Another library building is named after George Peabody, also known as the Cathedral of Books: it holds about 300,000 volumes, mostly from the 18th and 19th centuries, and is regularly ranked among the most beautiful libraries in the world.

The Ralph S. O'Connor Recreation and Wellness Center is a nearly 80,000 square foot athletic building located at the north gate of the Homewood campus. It contains:

• 20-foot artificial rock climbing cave of all difficulty levels,
• Cardio floor overlooking the Bufano Sculpture Garden with numerous exercise machines,
• A functional area with a coating for stretching, using TRX barbells or bodyweight exercises,
• Single-lane rubber track for walking, jogging around Homewood Field Stadium,
• Three-lane indoor track with walking and running speed signs,
• Two large fitness rooms for group fitness classes, dance classes, and a 25-yard, six-lane swimming pool that ranges in depth from 5.5 feet to 13 feet.

Outside, to the south of the O'Connor Center, there is a training field with lighting, synthetic and grass surfaces, tennis courts, basketball courts.

The duration of the academic year and the schedule of classes depend on the chosen school and specialty. Students usually study in semesters, with several session weeks and seasonal vacations between semesters. Students have holidays on public and international holidays, and on weekends.

• Arrival on campus for accommodation in a residential building, attendance of orientation events, and the beginning of studies.

In 2014, out of 29,612 applications submitted, 1922 were accepted, and in fact 1300 applicants were registered.

The autumn reception of 2021 was distinguished by large numbers:

• Submitted applications – 38 513,
• Enrolled applicants - 1338, of which 99% were the best students of their school class.

Graduates of 2020 within six months after graduation have achieved the following successes:

• 46% – full-time or paid public service,
• 38% – admission to the university for advanced training,
• 6% – military service/entrepreneurship, etc.,
• 7% – active job search,
• 3% – applying for admission.

80% of graduates of the bachelor's degree in medical and legal areas within six months were enrolled in subsequent specialized institutions.

All depends on the level of education that a foreign applicant enters, he must have:

• A complete package of personal documents, including a passport, medical insurance, visa or residence permit,
• Performance report from the previous place of study, semi-annual assessment report,
• Two letters of recommendation from teachers,
• The results of the language test: IELTS, TOEFL, PTE Academic or equivalent. Different specializations may require different levels of English proficiency, so passing grades should be checked with the admissions staff.

Each department of John Hopkins University awards its students with scholarships for special achievements in specialized education. Students can apply for scholarships in the fields of sports, creativity, and social activities — the scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis and for outstanding achievements.

The admission of students is not based on their financial situation, therefore, those students who are in a difficult financial situation can receive financial support that covers up to 100% of the cost of tuition; in such cases, financial assistance does not require repayment, is not a loan, and does not oblige the student to anything other than good academic performance.
