Reception and Year 1

  • Student age — 3–6 years,
  • Campus — Wetherby School Notting Hill + Kensington.

The earliest stage, where the foundation for future learning is laid: boys gradually develop key skills through structured lessons, while their own initiative and interest in learning play an important role.

The curriculum is designed to support different abilities and paces of development, combining classroom work and outdoor activity to help young children develop comprehensively. Even at this stage, children can try their hand at sports and clubs — cricket, swimming, rugby, football, and other activities.

The transition to school is smooth and calm; new pupils quickly join the process thanks to the support of teachers, parents, and close interaction with the preparatory classes. Introductory events are held before the start of the school year.

The school places emphasis on community and character development. All pupils are considered «Wetherby Ambassadors»: they learn not only within school but also beyond it, reflecting its values in everyday life. Independence, responsibility, and the ability to take pride in one's achievements are encouraged.

Wetherby School is free from the strict framework of the Early Years Foundation Stage, which allows learning to be tailored to each child from the very first year. The foundation of learning is a combination of EYFS elements and a more academic approach; children receive support while gradually being presented with more challenging tasks, developing at their own pace. Subjects include English, mathematics, science, geography, history and religious studies, music, art, French, design and technology, computing, thinking skills, and PSHEE (personal, social, health and economic education).

Physical development is also important: PE and games include swimming, football, rugby, cricket, and other sports, supporting the health and activity of pupils. Particular attention is paid to language development: pupils study English and French at the pre-preparatory programme level, developing literacy and communication skills. Wetherby Pre-Prep is a multilingual environment where more than 25 languages are spoken.

Pre Prep – Reception & Early Years

  • Student age — 4+ years,
  • Campus — Wetherby Prep.

From September 2026, Wetherby Schools is launching a new preparatory class: it will become part of the existing programmes for children in Notting Hill and Kensington.

At this stage, the main focus is on enabling each child to discover their strengths, interests, and natural abilities. The programme includes not only academic lessons but also extracurricular activities that help develop curiosity, independence, and creative thinking.

New modern facilities have been created for the youngest pupils, specifically designed for early development. The classrooms are bright, comfortable, and equipped to sustain interest in learning: from play installations to multimedia systems. Play areas help children learn through movement, play, and exploration.

The primary goal of this stage is to prepare boys for the future 7+ and 8+ examinations. This gives them the opportunity to enter leading preparatory schools or continue their education at Wetherby Prep.

Nursery School in Notting Hill

  • Student age — 2–4 years,
  • Campus — Wetherby Pembridge Minors, Holland Park.

At the Nursery School in Notting Hill, the early years programme is structured to gently and consistently unlock each child's potential. Learning is aimed at comprehensive development and helps children gradually progress to the next stage — the preparatory class.

The pre-school years are regarded here as one of the most important periods of development: this is the time when fundamental skills, character, and the first lasting interests are formed. The teachers' approach combines care, observation, and modern educational methods to support the child's development in academic, social, emotional, and physical directions. Learning follows the EYFS programme, which combines structured lessons and play-based learning.

The programme is carefully designed and aimed at smooth preparation for future learning. Children participate both in teacher-led activities and in games and activities that they initiate themselves. Particular attention is paid to the key EYFS areas and additional areas that support the child's broader progress. Learning is naturally embedded in everyday life.

Schedule and groups:

  • The Nursery School in Notting Hill offers full-day and part-day formats. The daytime session begins between 8:15 and 9:00.
  • Nursery 1 (2–3 years): part-day option with departure at 11:45–12:00, or full day with departure at 15:15–15:50.
  • Nursery 2 (3–4 years): full-day format with departure at 15:15–15:50.

Both girls and boys attend the nursery.

Years 2 and 3

  • Age of pupils — 6–8 years,
  • Campus — Wetherby School Notting Hill + Kensington.

At these academic stages, boys gain access to a variety of engaging learning opportunities that simultaneously support and develop their abilities. The programme is rich and well-rounded, helping pupils move forward with confidence and prepare for entry to leading preparatory schools after sitting the 7+ or 8+ exams. Teachers actively support children throughout their preparation for these tests: they have a thorough understanding of the requirements of senior schools and help choose the right time to sit the exams, so that every child has the best possible chances.

The programme continues to expand over the two academic years and covers a wide range of subjects:

  • At the core are English, mathematics, science, history, geography and religious education,
  • Additionally studied are French, logic, computing, PSHEE, music, art, design and technology.

Learning is not confined to the classroom: the extracurricular programme provides opportunities to develop sporting, creative and technical skills. Boys can take part in clubs and additional activities, and take on responsibilities in school initiatives such as the school council or Eco Warriors.

Physical development is supported through access to sports facilities and activities: swimming, football, the gymnasium, rugby, cricket and hockey. Trips around London also form an important part of the academic process: children explore the city and use it as an additional space for learning and observation. In the summer term of Year 3, there is a major residential trip: it becomes one of the key events of this stage, giving boys experience of independence, teamwork and new impressions beyond the school.

Lower School

  • Students' age — 15–16 years,
  • Campus — Wetherby Prep.

In Lower School, the main focus is on a smooth transition from preparatory classes to a more rigorous academic programme. Students gradually become more independent, confident and responsible, while developing key skills and personal qualities.

The stage includes Years 3, 4 and 5. In Year 3, the teaching structure is still close to that of a preparatory school: core lessons are taught by a form teacher, while specialist subjects are taught by individual specialists. In Year 4, there is more movement between classrooms, which helps students get used to the senior school format and develop independence. By Year 5, students are fully immersed in the rhythm of Wetherby Prep.

Throughout these years, developing relationships with classmates and teachers is of great importance: children become more confident not only in their studies but also in communication, gradually strengthening their social and emotional skills. Each subject in the programme plays its role in the overall development of the student. Lessons are taught by experienced and passionate teachers, which keeps them lively, varied and motivating.

At Wetherby Prep, great attention is paid to extracurricular activities — there are many clubs, and they cater to a wide variety of interests. There are more specialised clubs available by invitation — for example, advanced drama. K

The art programme includes a wide range of disciplines: painting, 3D design, woodwork, clay and wire sculpture, screen printing, work with pastels, ink, linocut and 3D printing. Children study art not only in practice but also in context: they explore works by classical and contemporary artists, examining the artistic ideas and meanings behind the works.

Learning is complemented by trips to London museums and galleries, including the National Gallery, British Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum. Professional artists regularly visit the school, such as Tracey Emin, CBE, RA, who share their experience and speak about contemporary artistic practice.

Mathematics at Wetherby Prep covers classic areas: geometry, algebra, percentages and statistics. Students gradually progress to more complex tasks and prepare for the 11+, 13+ and Common Entrance exams. Digital testing formats are actively used here, including ISEB, CATS and Progress in Maths — this approach helps track progress and adapt learning, resulting in students gaining a strong mathematical foundation and confidently entering leading senior schools in the country and worldwide.

Lower School

  • Students' age — 15–16 years,
  • Campus — Wetherby Senior School Marylebone.

Lower School offers a strong international-level academic programme, complemented by individual support and a rich extracurricular life. Students work under the guidance of experienced specialists, diligently and gradually preparing for the next stages and examinations.

From the first day at Wetherby Senior School Marylebone, students are held to high but clear expectations. Here, not only academic development is important, but also the formation of personal qualities: confidence, independence, resilience and a drive for growth.  The programme is designed to combine a high level of academic workload with support for individual development. Lessons are taught by specialists with extensive experience in their fields, which helps young people understand subjects more deeply and confidently prepare for the next stage of learning.

  • The English language programme includes a variety of texts and is aimed at developing speech, listening comprehension and analytical thinking. Particular attention is paid to research skills and the ability to work with information.
  • Latin is also part of the curriculum: students learn to translate texts and gain a better understanding of how language influences modern society and relates to the development of culture and thought.
  • A wide range of extracurricular activities: boys can develop in sport, art and other areas, working with invited specialists from various fields.

The transition to senior school is considered an important stage and therefore receives special attention. A structured induction programme has been developed for students, which begins in June, before the start of the first term — it helps ease the transition into the new learning rhythm and feel more confident from the very first lesson.

Middle School

  • Students' age — from 16 years,
  • Campus — Wetherby Senior School Marylebone.

Middle School is the stage when students begin to approach their studies and choice of GCSE examinations more consciously. A strong academic foundation and individual support help each student select subjects that best reflect their interests, strengths and future goals. Tutors assist with the selection of GCSE subjects, taking into account each student's interests and strengths.

Here, it is important not only to perform well in exams but also to make real progress in chosen disciplines. Learning is not limited to the classroom: students can develop their abilities in sport, art and other areas.

In Year 11, each student is assigned a personal university admissions adviser who helps map out a clear academic pathway and provides support when preparing for admission to higher education institutions.

Upper School

  • Students' age — 16–19 years,
  • Campus — Wetherby Prep.

Upper School is a period when academic work becomes particularly intensive and focused on academic results: students study all subjects in greater depth and gradually reach a high level of preparation for entrance exams. At the same time, the level of responsibility increases: students become more independent, take on the role of role models for younger pupils, and develop a deeper understanding of the school's values.

The main focus is on preparation for entrance exams and scholarship assessments. After these are completed, a broader programme of career guidance and preparation for the next stage of education begins.

From Year 6, boys begin studying Latin: lessons cover not only grammar and vocabulary, but also the influence of Latin on modern European languages and its significance in the modern world. The curriculum includes etymology, syntax and word formation. Additionally, an elective in Ancient Greek is available in Years 6, 7 and 8: it helps prepare for exams at various levels, including scholarship assessments.

In Year 6, English language teaching advances to Year 7 of the national curriculum. This is an important stage of preparation for the 13+ (ISEB) exams. Students work with different text genres: novels, poetry, drama and non-fiction materials; the main emphasis is on comprehension, vocabulary expansion, developing writing skills, and working with the language with greater freedom and confidence. Assessment takes place throughout the year and includes written and oral tasks with detailed feedback. Preparation for ISEB begins early: practice tests take place in autumn, and the main exams in summer.

In Year 7, students move on to the Year 8 curriculum and continue preparing for the 13+ exams: they are already well acquainted with the task format and learn to work with it even more productively and precisely. Alongside this, classical and contemporary literature is studied, including prose, poetry and drama; attention is paid to analysing meaning, literary techniques and text structure, and students develop their own written style, expressive and precise. Assessment remains regular: written and oral tasks, feedback and the setting of learning goals help students track their progress. Exams take place in the final two terms, and the summer assessments closely replicate the ISEB format.

In Year 8, both literary and non-fiction texts are analysed with attention to structure, style and linguistic features. A particular focus is essay writing: planning, structure, editing and improving text quality. Poetry from different eras is studied, along with literary techniques and vocabulary. In their own writing, students use more sophisticated expressive devices, making their texts more precise and convincing.

Assessment includes regular checks, mock exams and a final test in June. The English exam consists of two parts: the first — prose analysis and a text with a set purpose (for example, to persuade or inform); the second — poetry analysis and the creation of a descriptive text or story.

Sixth Form

  • Students' age — from 18 years,
  • Campus — Wetherby Senior School Marylebone.

Sixth Form is the final stage of school education, where the main focus is on preparation for A-levels and university admission. High exam results and the successful admission of former students to strong international universities confirm the level of academic preparation at this stage.

Students follow a rich and structured programme under the guidance of experienced teachers and mentors. Personal support plays an important role: each prospective graduate works with a university admissions consultant who helps build an individual educational path. As a result, students gain places at leading universities in the UK, Europe and North America, including Russell Group universities.

In Sixth Form, students typically sit 3 A-level subjects and complete the Extended Project Qualification — an extended research project. The wide choice of subjects allows students to focus on those that truly match their interests, strengths and future plans.

The extracurricular programme also remains an important part of the education. Classes are led by high-level specialists: from professionals of London rugby clubs to musicians from leading European orchestras.

The main goal of this stage is to build a solid foundation of knowledge and skills for successfully passing GCSEs, and later A-levels.

The programme is structured so that learning is both academically rigorous and engaging for students: lessons are carefully organised, and modern facilities help students absorb material better and achieve high results. The course is distinguished by an individual approach: teaching is adapted to the level and needs of each student so that everyone can reach their potential.

Great attention is paid to the quality of teaching. Wetherby Pembridge employs experienced teachers with strong training and pedagogical practice, who not only have a thorough knowledge of their subject but also know how to engage students and help them develop a deeper understanding of the material.

Middle School

  • Student age — from 16 years old,
  • Campus — Wetherby Pembridge.

Middle School is the period when students transition to the GCSE programme. Studies become more intensive, while remaining varied and motivating. Students gradually take greater responsibility for their results and begin moving purposefully towards high academic goals.

GCSE preparation is structured to help students achieve strong results and confidently move on to the upper school. Lessons are taught by experienced teachers, and the learning framework is designed to support steady progress throughout the course. In Year 9, all students study the following set of subjects: mathematics, English, physics, chemistry, biology, at least one modern foreign language, Latin, history, geography, music, visual arts, drama, theology and philosophy, computer science, and physical education.

In Year 10, students move on to choosing their GCSE examination subjects, while a compulsory core is maintained: mathematics, English, one natural science, at least one modern foreign language, humanities, and a creative subject. Weekly sports sessions and the PSHE course continue, helping students develop skills for life outside school.

As they progress, students gain access to a wider range of extracurricular activities. Each student is encouraged to choose at least one activity related to wellbeing, and another focused on developing public speaking and presentation skills. Talents are actively supported through inter-school sports competitions, music and theatre contests, annual concerts and productions.

Work includes seminars, discussions, internships, and individual consultations during lunch breaks and after school. In addition, students participate in projects, academic olympiads, and competitions that help build a strong academic profile.

From Year 10, structured careers guidance begins: it includes individual support, exploration of career pathways, and talks by invited experts. Meetings with university advisors are held to help each student choose their further educational path.

Sixth Form

  • Students' age — 16–18 years,
  • Campus — Wetherby Pembridge.

Sixth Form is a stage where the main focus is on A-levels and in-depth academic preparation. Future graduates work with a challenging curriculum, learn to set high goals, and build their individual educational path. A strong academic foundation is combined with personal support. Students typically choose 3–4 subjects: teachers help select a combination of disciplines that matches their strengths, interests, and future plans.

In addition to A-levels, students can take the Extended Project Qualification — an extended research project: it helps develop academic independence and is particularly valued when applying to top universities.

There is the Sixth Form Options programme, which allows students to significantly broaden their horizons: deepen interests, explore new disciplines, including additional languages, and participate in compulsory modules on career guidance and healthy living. Career guidance support is built into the programme and includes lectures, discussions, consultations, and working sessions with experts.

Sport remains a compulsory part of education, but in Sixth Form students have greater freedom of choice: they can pursue sport for enjoyment or focus on developing in specific disciplines. Active participation in creative and performing arts continues, and students can try themselves in leadership roles, for example, in organising backstage work or leading musical and creative groups.

Wetherby School Notting Hill

This is a prestigious preparatory school in Notting Hill (London), well known for its pre-school education for boys aged 4 to 8. It has approximately 330 pupils, with an average class size of 22.

Teaching is built around a strong academic foundation and an individual approach. The programme is intensive, yet balanced and engaging: children do not simply cover the material, but learn to work with confidence and enthusiasm.

Key skills are instilled from the very beginning: reading, writing and mathematics. Teachers structure the entire process so that knowledge develops gradually and logically, without gaps. The curriculum includes mathematics, English, science, integrated subjects and religious education (R.E.), French, music, drama, art, design and technology, computing and physical education (P.E.). Particular attention is paid to the development of thinking and life skills.

Physical development is supported through gymnastics, swimming, football, rugby, cricket and hockey. French, music, theatre, art, IT and sport are taught by specialist subject teachers, which helps pupils receive a high-quality education in every area.

History and geography are taught through a thematic approach: subjects are linked by a common theme and intersect with art, music and English. This format helps pupils better understand the material and apply knowledge in different situations, not only in the classroom but also in real life.

Sessions combine structure and play, and approaches are adapted to each child. The teaching team develops individual strategies, helping to uncover interests and abilities. Accommodation, meals, prices

Wetherby School Notting Hill

Tasty and balanced lunches that help maintain energy throughout the day and build healthy eating habits, helping children develop good dietary habits for the future. Lunches include a sufficient amount of fruits and vegetables — usually around three portions, which makes it easy to reach the established "5 a day" target. Meat and vegetables are sourced from local suppliers where possible, and all produce is used as fresh as possible to ensure meals are nutritious.

At the beginning of each term, the catering team creates a 12-week menu; it often includes themed days, such as "Dishes from Around the World", to make food more varied and interesting.

Special attention is paid to dietary requirements: if a pupil has allergies or food intolerances, this is always taken into account when organising meals; for safety, no dishes containing nuts are prepared.

Wetherby Prep

Catering is organised with the involvement of professional catering companies (Thomas Franks): the menu includes snacks, lunches and afternoon tea, and is developed in accordance with nutritionists' recommendations. All dishes are prepared by hand in the school kitchen using fresh ingredients. The chefs take into account the busy school schedule and prepare packed lunches for pupils who are unable to attend the communal lunch.

Wetherby Pembridge Minors

Balanced meals that help children stay active, focused and in a good mood throughout the day. Pupils who attend half-day sessions receive a morning snack; from the second year of study they move to a full day, so they additionally receive lunch and an afternoon snack. Lunches typically include 3 courses — a main course (with variations) and a dessert.

At Wetherby Schools, most clubs are already included in the tuition fee, but some activities may incur an additional charge — this usually applies to activities that take place outside the schools or require special equipment. Sometimes extended learning materials and optional excursions are paid for separately.

Perspectives

Approximately a quarter of pupils aged 7 to 11 transfer to other schools: most commonly to the junior classes of St Paul's Juniors, Westminster Under, and King's College Junior School Wimbledon, which are also popular among children aged 8+.

After completing the middle school stage, children go on to leading senior schools in the United Kingdom, including Eton, Harrow, and Winchester College. At the same time, Wetherby Schools tries not to fixate on the idea of the "most prestigious" schools — the approach is simple: supporting each pupil in choosing the academic path that is right for them.

Many pupils receive scholarships at senior schools and then go on to universities such as Oxford and Cambridge. Around 90% of graduates choose and successfully gain entry to their first-choice universities. They then go on to succeed in a wide variety of fields: from professional sport and film to the performing arts and other creative and specialist areas.

Scholarships Wetherby Schools, Wetherby Schools

Wetherby Schools offer scholarships for talented candidates who are just enrolling and for those already studying at one of the schools. Financial support is organized through the Gold Standard Charitable Trust charity fund, which raises funds for all Inspired UK schools. After the principal forms a list of candidates, GSCT conducts a financial needs assessment and makes a decision on support. If approved, students can receive financial assistance ranging from 50% to 110% of tuition costs.

There is also a separate Nsouli scholarship program — an international initiative aimed at supporting talented students. Within its framework, 50 students can receive a full scholarship to study at one of the Inspired schools for the entire duration of their studies. The goal of Nsouli is to give as many children as possible the opportunity to receive a quality education.
